You must have listened to TED Talks on YouTube. In 2014, I was lucky enough to be a part of TEDxKL event. And I was left amazed! I have never met a huge congregation of inspirational people under one roof. On 8th February 2018, Multimedia University is organizing TEDxMMU 2018 for the second time. Accomplished speakers and performers from diverse fields have been invited to present. So if you haven’t booked your ticket yet, here are 5 great reasons why you should attend the upcoming TEDxMMU event.

Networking

The company you keep defines you. Associate yourself with people of good quality; for it is better to be alone than be in a bad company”. It is very important to choose your friends wisely. When you will come to TEDxMMU 2018, you will get the chance to hang out with people who have come over there for the same purpose as you – to learn. Get to know them, increase your network. You never know how your new companions can have a positive impact on you.

Get encouragement

We are all in need of constant inspiration and motivation. At times, we confront issues in our lives that make us lose hope and surrender the spirit of living. When we listen to the people who have faced bigger problems than us and still did not give up hope, we realize that “…Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear…” (Surah Baqarah).

Get inspired

When do you get the opportunity to meet world’s greatest leaders & artists in one place, under one roof, in Malaysia? The celebrities that you could only dream of seeing are taking time out of their schedule to come for you to attend TEDxMMU 2018. So why not grab this incredible chance? The Mismatched Socks

Wearing mismatched socks is silly but fun! 😀 And doing it for a greater purpose is beyond amazing!

World Youth Alliance is celebrating World Down Syndrome Day 2017 in the European Parliament. You can join the campaign by sharing a photo/video of you wearing mismatched socks on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or/and YouTube. Challenge 3 friends to do the same. Don’t forget to tag @WYAEurope and @FondLejeauneEN and use the hashtag #SockBattle4DS. Look at my campaign pictures. 🙂

While the media is filled with gossips, labeling of people and news of controversy, lets give our share of time to this issue. Make sure that you do research on the symptoms of Down Syndrome and understand the importance of the campaign.

Is It Okay For Men To Cry?

One of the guys in my class was hurt emotionally and he started crying in front of all of the friends. The immediate reaction was this: “Don’t be such a girl”, “Don’t cry like a loser”, “You are such a baby”
I don’t understand. Crying does not make you a loser. It is a part of being human. Using the words  such as “Girl” or “Loser” as abuses should be stopped by all.
Crying does not make you any less of a human. In fact, it proves that you still have feelings. Crying does not make you weaker. In fact, it gives you the power to get over your problems and start over afresh. I asked my friend, Zain Agha, if he cries or not. He replied: “If I have to. There is nothing unmanly about crying. Crying is a human act. It is the helplessness that gets you.”
When you call someone a “baby” as an insult, you are actually complimenting them. Because babies don’t give up. They fail at simple tasks, they fall down while walking, they drop their spoons while eating, but they don’t give up. They try again. They try harder. They win in the end.
When you are call someone a “woman”, you are actually complimenting them. Because women play the demanding role of mothers. The patience, willpower, determination of a mother is incomparable. She bears the pain to bring her kids into this world. She bears the pain of upbringing them. She bears the pain of their harsh words. Yet, she is always there when they need her.
There is nothing wrong with men tearing up. We should stop stereotyping and expect men to say “mard ko dard nahi hota”(Men don’t feel pain). Humans have different thresholds of patience and when the problems cross that line, they break. But that does not mean that they have broken forever. They stand up and rebuild themselves. Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up. I am no man but I say it is time to stop abiding the sexism against men, and shun the ideas such as:

Teach your male kids that it is okay to cry.
Teach your kids to respect women and not use “girl” or “woman” as abuses.
Teach your kids to respect the feelings of the person who is hurt.
Teach your kids to not search for the right person for themselves, but to be the right person for all.

The Day I Stayed with 20 HIV/Aids Patients

I love volunteering. I love seeking out new opportunities to help people. So when my sister, Fareha Nizam (from Pakistan) and friends, Azrina (from Fiji) and Jannah (from Malaysia) told me about the event they are organizing, I was thrilled.

I, along with the team headed by Ms. Rekha, set out to reach HIV/Aids Council. After an hour drive, we reached the destination with extraordinary enthusiasm and to be honest with you, I HAD ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING TIMES OF MY LIFE over there!!!

The manager gave us a brief review of the place and the patients. There were around twenty individuals suffering from HIV/Aids. Most of them were young children. At first, they were hesitant and shy, but that did not stop them from welcoming us warmly. Gradually, with huge grins on their faces, they started mingling. I made several new friends. A girl named Azana developed such a special bonding with me that she declined to eat until I spoon-fed her. Just look at her cuteness!

Later, we played drawing games and gifted them stationary boxes and coloring books. I was able to relax and enjoy with twenty great people who were more energetic, more positive, more lively than me. And spending a day there made me realize three things:

  1. We need to let go of negativity affecting our lives
Because they slowly consume us and leave us pessimistic, and unmotivated.
  2. We should not let our failures get to us
DO NOT GIVE UP! Do not regret. Life is a roller coaster.
Reconstruct your life and move on.
  3. HIV/Aids patients require love and care
Eating/drinking/playing with such patients does not transfer the disease.
It is highly important that such patients are not left alone.

Mission: Make the patients’ day happier

Outcome: The patients made my day happier
